Willow Birds

Helen Scott makes willow birds in Adisham

The birds are made from brown willow which has the bark left on, this makes it suitable for outdoor use and the birds will last for several years in the garden. They are supplied with bases but are often displayed attached to a tree branch or fence.

The willow is grown in Somerset and stored dry, prior to use it must be soaked in cold water for about a week. The bird’s legs are hazel which is sourced locally. Both hazel and willow are sustainable crops which are coppiced annually and are traditionally used in the making of garden hurdles.
